Nau Residence

When the owners purchased the 18,000 SF corner lot at the peninsula of Aransas Bay, they wanted a vacation residence that took full advantage of the water while enjoying the summer breezes from the Bay. The clients wanted a home reminiscent of a Texas ranch house with low-slung roofs and large overhangs with wrapping terraces. Secondary private spaces were arranged on the first floor. The 'Open Plan' of the second floor gave full views to the water with east access to the perimeter terraces. Separating the fitness studio as a separate building helped to anchor the main house on the site while not cluttering the basic functions of the main house. Large fossil stone slabs from local quarries and pre-engineered cedar panels were specified for the exterior skin. A standing seam galvalume roof was specified for longevity and radiant heat barrier aspects. Insulated low impact resistant glazing was specified for protection from the weather and energy saving purposes. Light tone hues were used throughout the home to maintain the openness and expansiveness of the plan and to allow the sand and sea to be the picturesque backdrop.
