The Tanglewood

The initial programming design challenge was to fit a 66 unit six story mid-rise condominium on a compact 1.3-acre tract of land while respecting the surrounding residential neighborhood. The developers loved the buildings of 1930's New York because of their urban and textural flavor. With this basic mission, Di Nunzio Architecture designed the building in a u-shape in order to breakdown the scale of the structure in relation to the neighborhood. Creating hierarchies was next in order, from the graceful sweeping of the courtyard trellis to the jewel sized entry pavilion to the main barrel vault structure. Each of these elements took on a task/role to humanizing the building and playing to the views of Uptown, Tangelwood and the Galleria. The design vocabulary blended a simple palate of Arriscraft Stone, brick and cement. The Classical Modern building evokes images of New York and European charm.
